1889-chapter-28-1

A few days after the commotion, I’ve been enjoying a more comfortable life than ever before.

I no longer had to go to the dining hall for every meal, nor wander around looking for Edmond, who is nowhere to be seen except at our scheduled times.

Just like now.

“Eat a balanced meal, will you? How do you expect that frail body of yours to withstand the summer heat?”

“Alright, alright. I’ll eat, okay? Why are you nagging so much lately? Even coming all the way to my chamber, no less.”

I responded grumpily in response to the endless nagging. Seeing his perfect physique and handsome face first thing in the morning was a sight to behold, but being bombarded with his nagging was a different matter.

My inherently weak body hit a breaking point that evening, succumbing to heatstroke. I was on the brink of death, unconscious for several days.

And when I opened my eyes, I found myself in a situation no different than a greenhouse flower. Despite the time that had passed, Edmond’s overprotectiveness only grew more intense.

“It’s because you only eat meat. If you ate balanced meals, there’d be no reason to scold you. Who told you to faint all the time?”

Edmond shrugged his shoulders and spoke in a low voice.

“Fine, I get it. It’s all my fault. Speaking of which, don’t you have any paperwork to look at today? You usually just show your face and then leave.”

I glanced at Edmond, who looked worn out from lack of sleep.

“I finished everything last night.”

“Why? Were you that worried about me? When I said that I was sick, did your heart ache?

“It’s a husband’s duty to look after his wife’s health. I’m just doing what needs to be done. I hear you’ve been picky with your food lately? Lost your memory and decided to go back to being a child?”

‘Sasha, just shut that mouth of yours!’

I grumbled quietly, pursing my lips. Then, as if something came to mind, I suddenly spoke in a coy tone.

“I’ll eat everything today, so grant me one wish.”

“You’re eating for yourself, so why should I bother to do something unnecessary? That’s unreasonable. I can’t grant it.”

“Why do you always have to be so strict and calculative? Really, there’s not an ounce of emotion in you.”

“That’s…!”

“And that’s why it’s so attractive. You know it too, right? That you’re perfect.”

I cut off Edmond’s words and quickly replied. He must have gotten used to it after hearing it so often. Not long ago, he would have blushed and fidgeted, but now, he shrugged with ease.

“How is my darling so cute? Handsome and cute at the same time—it’s not fair, it’s just not fair!”

I fluttered my eyes and smiled slyly. At the same time, no one knew that his steady heart began to beat a little faster.

“A wish? Such a grand word. What is it that you want?”

As usual, Edmond asked in his calm voice.

“I want to go for a walk in the garden.”

“What?”

Had he misheard? Edmond was taken aback by my perfectly normal request.

‘What did he expect?’

With a small question lingering in his mind, Edmond’s red eyes wavered slightly.

“Sasha mentioned it. Apparently, there’s a huge tree in the garden.”

At my words, Edmond’s face twisted slightly. Then he spoke in a curt tone.

“It’s a tree you were especially fond of. You planted it yourself.”

“Oh, so I used to have a hobby like that? Planting trees? I’ve always liked flowers, though.”

I felt his piercing gaze on my skin. Edmond’s face, which had hardened considerably, suddenly felt unfamiliar.

“Really… don’t you remember anything at all?”

After a moment of silence, he asked in a rather heavy voice. I pursed my lips and answered, confused by why he was making such a big deal out of a mere tree.

“What? A tree? How could I remember? I don’t even remember the things I did with you. Not that I care, anyway.”

“…”

“I just want to take a stroll with you, enjoy some fresh air, and maybe even go on a date. Doesn’t that sound nice?”

Noticing the shift in atmosphere, I softened my gaze and spoke sweetly. Yet, Edmond’s expression refused to lighten.

Reluctantly, he led the way to the garden. For some reason, he didn’t seem at all pleased with my suggestion.

“This is exciting. This is the first time I’ve been anywhere other than the training grounds.”

I pretended not to know anything and followed behind my husband. Unlike me, Edmond remained silent. We walked down a long corridor and down a flight of stairs. Edmond opened the side door behind the dining hall without a word.

“Oh? I know this path.”

It was, in fact, a familiar path. You had to go through here to reach the training grounds. After walking for a while, we came to a fork in the road.

After passing through a narrow trail, a large domed structure came into view. It was transparent, with glass on all sides, but the inside wasn’t visible.

“This is it. The place with the fairy tree.”
